Restore and Expand Bears Ears National Monument

Restore and Expand Bears Ears National Monument

Former President Trump illegally attempted to slash Utah’s Bears Ears National Monument by 85 percent, putting over a million acres, thousands of archaeological sites and a cultural landscape sacred to Indigenous nations at risk from extractive industries and unmanaged development.

Act Now

President Biden ordered a review of Bears Ears National Monument on the day he was inaugurated. After a visit to the area, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland recommended that the boundaries be restored to 1.35 million acres.

Bears Ears is a significant cultural and natural landscape, with thousands of sacred sites and resources that support Indigenous livelihoods. It is also home to world-class climbing and other outdoor recreation.

Patagonia joined the sovereign Indigenous nations of the Hopi Tribe, Navajo Nation, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, Ute Indian Tribe and Zuni Tribe and many grassroots groups in suing the Trump administration to protect Bears Ears National Monument, and we support their call today for the full protection of the originally proposed 1.9 million acres and meaningful co-management by the Tribes.
