Trees are one of the keys to fighting the climate crisis. Old-growth forests sequester vast amounts of carbon, protect clean drinking water, safeguard plants and wildlife, help restore biodiversity, and so much more.
But these trees need our help. The US Forest Service is finalizing the first-ever national policy to steward and conserve our old-growth forests. But this historic proposal doesn’t go far enough. It still allows for numerous exceptions of commercial logging of old-growth forests and does nothing to protect mature forests, the old-growth of the future, from logging.
Take action by September 20 to advocate for the strongest possible protections of our nation’s ancient forests. It only takes two minutes—but the results could be everlasting.
